Pool Ozone Generator Replacement Parts Guide

Keeping your pool ozone generator running at full output requires periodic part replacements. This guide covers every replacement part you may need, how to match it to your unit, where to find it, and how to know when it is time to order. Where a manufacturer publishes a part number or a replacement interval, we quote it and link the manual so you can check it against your own generator.

Essential Replacement Parts Overview

Most ozone parts are rated in operating hours, not calendar years, so the right interval depends on how many hours your pump runs each day. The intervals below come from DEL Ozone manuals where DEL publishes one; for other brands, use the figure in your own manual.

Find Your Part Number First

Every parts store we looked at (DEL dealers, PST Pool Supplies, Wild West Pool Supplies) lists ozone parts by the manufacturer’s part number, not by a generic name. Before you order anything, find the model number on the generator label and open its manual to the replacement parts list. Two examples from DEL Ozone:

The same check valve assembly number (9-0770-01) is also sold for DEL Eclipse 1, 2 and 4 units, so one tube kit can fit several models. Some brands also sell a “renewal kit” that bundles the tubing, check valve and flow meter in one box, which is the simplest way to do the yearly service.

Warranty note: DEL states that its warranty is void if the tube assembly, module and filter are not replaced at the recommended intervals, and its spa generator manual says to use only DEL authorized replacement parts (DEL spa manual). If your unit is still under warranty, buy the brand part rather than a generic one.

UV Lamps

UV ozone generators rely on a mercury vapor lamp emitting light at 185 nanometers to produce ozone. This is the most frequently replaced part in any UV-based ozone system.

When to Replace

Replace the UV lamp when it reaches its rated hours, regardless of whether it still glows. The ozone-producing output fades faster than the visible light the lamp emits, so a lamp that appears to work may produce little ozone. DEL, for example, says to replace the UV lamp in its AOP-S system after 13,000 hours of operation. At 8 hours a day that is about four and a half years; at 24 hours a day it is about a year and a half.

Performance signs: Rising chlorine demand, increasing chloramines (combined chlorine above 0.2 ppm), or declining water clarity after months of normal performance all suggest a depleted lamp.

How to Find the Right Lamp

UV lamps are model-specific. You need the exact replacement for your generator:

• Check the generator’s manual for the lamp part number
• Note the lamp wattage, base type, and length
• Order directly from the manufacturer or an authorized dealer
• Cross-reference generic lamp databases if OEM parts are unavailable

Do not substitute a different lamp, even a lamp that physically fits may emit the wrong wavelength or wattage. Only 185nm lamps produce ozone; standard germicidal lamps (254nm) kill bacteria but do not create ozone. When you handle the new lamp, hold it by the ceramic ends: DEL warns against touching the lamp glass with bare hands.

Corona Discharge Cells

The corona discharge cell (DEL calls it the ozone module) is the most expensive consumable part in a CD ozone generator but also the longest-lasting. These cells degrade gradually, so performance loss is often subtle until output drops significantly.

When to Replace

• The module indicator light no longer comes on with the pump running (DEL: replace that module)
• The module has passed its rated hours: DEL says to replace each module after 15,000 hours, even if the green light still glows
• Output has declined steadily, shown by rising chlorine demand
• Visible damage, discoloration, pitting, or cracks in the dielectric

Before you order a module because the light is out, check the simple causes DEL lists first: a tripped GFCI, a breaker, loose wiring, or a blown fuse. On the DEL 25/50/100 the fuse is a replaceable 1 amp slow-blow glass fuse, 0.25″ x 1.25″.

Sourcing CD Cells

CD cells are proprietary to each manufacturer. Always order from the original manufacturer or authorized dealer, by the part number in your manual:

• DEL Ozone: ozone module kit 9-1636-01 for the 25/50/100 and AOP-S pool systems

Ozone-Resistant Tubing

The tubing connecting your generator to the venturi injector must be ozone-rated. Standard vinyl, PVC, or rubber tubing degrades quickly from ozone exposure, becoming brittle, cracked, and eventually causing system failure. DEL also warns never to replace the supplied tubing with metal tubing.

Even ozone-rated tube wears out. DEL notes that a tube turning yellow or brown and brittle is normal from high ozone concentration and sunlight, and says to replace the ozone tube and check valve every year.

For most residential installations, PTFE or ozone-grade silicone tubing with a 3/8″ or 1/4″ inner diameter is ideal, but match the inside diameter of your original tube so the barbs and clamps seal. Buy 6 to 10 feet to have extra on hand for future replacements.

Check Valves

The check valve prevents water from flowing backward from the venturi into the ozone tubing and generator. This is a critical safety component, a failed check valve lets water reach the generator and can ruin it.

Types of Check Valves for Ozone

• Spring-loaded inline check valve: Most common; uses a spring-loaded disc or ball to seal against backflow. Ensure the internal components are ozone-compatible (Viton or EPDM seals)
• Duckbill check valve: Uses a flexible rubber duckbill that opens with positive pressure and seals with negative pressure. Simple and reliable but must use ozone-rated rubber

When to Replace and How to Test

Replace the check valve every year (DEL sells it as one assembly with the tube), and immediately if you see water between the check valve and the generator. If water did reach the unit, DEL says to shut it down, replace the tube and check valve, and let the generator dry completely before restarting.

To test a suspect valve, DEL’s troubleshooting steps are: disconnect the ozone tube from the injector, cover the injector port with your thumb while the pump runs, and feel for suction. If suction is strong without the check valve but weak with it, the valve is fouled and needs replacing. When you fit the new one, the arrow on the valve must point toward the injector. DEL’s AOP-S manual also warns that trace nitric acid may be present in the old check valve assembly, so let it dry and wear gloves when you remove it.

Venturi Injectors

Quality venturi injectors (Mazzei-style) are extremely durable and rarely need replacement. When they do, it is usually due to mineral scaling that cannot be cleaned or physical damage.

Sizing Your Replacement

Match the venturi to your plumbing size (typically 1.5″ or 2″ for residential pools) and ensure the suction port fits your ozone tubing diameter. Mazzei injectors are available in multiple sizes with published flow rate and suction specifications, so match these to your pump’s output at the venturi location. Some systems also use a mixing chamber or flash reactor after the injector; replace it with the same size and barb fitting.

Flow Meter, Air Filter and Small Parts

• Flow meter: DEL supplies a flow meter assembly to confirm the injector is pulling gas. With the pump on, the ball should float between the Max and Min lines. DEL says to reinstall it regularly to check flow, then remove it once flow is confirmed.
• Air intake filter: DEL lists the ozone module filter (9-0858-01) as a part to replace once a year, and to inspect for dirt or blockage more often.
• Hose clamps and barb fittings: replace any clamp that has corroded when you change the tube.
• O-rings and quartz tube: on combined UV and ozone systems, a lamp change is a good time to inspect the quartz sleeve and its sealing O-ring.

Air Dryer Desiccant

Corona discharge generators with integrated air preparation use indicating desiccant beads (typically silica gel with a cobalt-free moisture indicator) to remove humidity from incoming air.

Regeneration vs Replacement

Some desiccants can be regenerated by heating them in an oven; others are single-use. Use the temperature and time in your generator’s manual, because the right settings depend on the bead type.

If purchasing new desiccant, use the same type and quantity specified by the manufacturer. Generic indicating silica gel beads work for most applications, so verify bead size and indicator type match.

Keeping a Parts Inventory

For uninterrupted ozone treatment, keep these parts on hand:

What parts of a pool ozone generator need replacing?

The wear parts are the ozone tube and check valve, the air intake filter, the ozone-producing part itself (a CD module or a UV lamp) and, on CD units with an air dryer, the desiccant. The housing, power supply and venturi usually last much longer.

How often should I replace the ozone tube and check valve?

Once a year. DEL requires yearly replacement of its tube and check valve assembly (9-0770-01) and says its warranty is void if the parts are not replaced at the recommended intervals. Replace them at once if you see water in the ozone tube.

Can I use generic parts instead of brand parts?

The indicator light is out. Do I need a new module?
